MSc thesis project proposal

Bioelectric interfacing with filamentous fungi

Fungi produce measurable local field potentials spontaneously thanks to the combined electrochemical ion transport activity of its filamentous network. The objective of this project is to quantify the baseline (spontaneous) bioelectric potential in a repeatable, highly quantitative way before scaling up. We plan to do this using custom microelectrode arrays fabricated in the cleanroom

Assignment

In summary, you will work on:

  • mask design and cleanroom fabrication
  • exploring how to grow and interface the fungi with the electrode
  • measuring bioelectric activity of fungi on electrode
  • analyzing the corresponding signals
